Aiming to fill out your communications calendar for the new year? Looking to plan fundraising campaigns or events? You might want to take a look at notable nonprofit dates in 2025.
From holidays to awareness months to giving days, having these dates on your radar will help you make plans to take advantage of – or avoid – these celebrations.
To help, we’ve compiled a list of nonprofit dates in 2025 every organization should save. You’ll also find a few tips on how to handle these notable days as a nonprofit.
2025 U.S. Federal Holidays
When going through your calendar for the new year, we recommend starting with the big nonprofit dates in 2025 – federal holidays! These holidays are officially recognized by the U.S. government. Most government employees – as well as many workers throughout the country – will have the day off.
Here’s a list of all 2025 federal holidays:
- New Year’s Day – Wednesday, January 1
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Monday, January 20
- Inauguration Day – Monday, January 20
- Washington’s Birthday (also known as Presidents’ Day) – Monday, February 17
- Memorial Day – Monday, May 26
- Juneteenth National Independence Day – Thursday, June 19
- Independence Day – Friday, July 4
- Labor Day – Monday, September 1
- Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day – Monday, October 13
- Veterans Day – Tuesday, November 11
- Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 27
- Christmas Day – Thursday, December 25
Tip from the Playbook: In general, it’s best to avoid planning major events or campaigns on federal holidays (unless your mission very specifically aligns with one), as many people will be busy with family time, celebrations, or vacations. If it’s a holiday your audience celebrates, however, a social media post or email on or near the day can help you boost engagement!
Additional 2025 Holidays in the U.S.
This next set of important nonprofit dates in 2025 should definitely be on your calendar. Many are centered around celebrations and themes that your nonprofit can use to build awareness – or even raise funds for your mission.
Consider sending a valentine to show your love for your donors. Plan a Mother’s Day Tea or Father’s Day Outing with a portion of proceeds benefiting your nonprofit. Host a trunk-or-treat or hayride around Halloween.
Just be careful – while not everyone will have the day off on these days, there may still be religious gatherings or family-centric celebrations to be cognizant of when making plans. Either way, it’s good to have them on the calendar!
